Baltimore, MD (June 9, 2008) – C-Love (Style Warz, ItsBaltimorebaby!) and Top of the Hill Records are teaming up to offer aspiring emcees the opportunity to showcase their talents in a new competition, No Guts/ No Glory: The Ultimate Skillz Challenge. The competition will bring emcees to one location, the fourth Thursday of every month, and give them a platform to improve their relevance in the crowded independent Hip Hop market. In addition, they also gain the opportunity to walk away with a $500* cash prize (* $20 to participate/ 25 MC max).

Beginning June 26 (2008), unsigned emcees will have the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with 25 other emcees in the region to determine who has the best verse and hook combinations in their rhyme repertoire for the beats provided by the House DJ. The weaker of the 2 emcees participating in each round will be eliminated until there are only two emcees left. The last MC stading is declared the winner for that month. Winners from the following 11 months will compete for the No Guts/Glory Championship title, which will be up for grabs in June of 2009.

Hosted by Baltimore's Hip Hop Ambassador, C-Love, and beats selected by DJ Fortune, No Guts/No Glory is dedicated to showcasing established as well as up and coming rap talents in manner that allows them to shine. The event will serve as the definitive test for those individuals in Baltimore and beyond that claim to have mastered their emceeing craft. The mix of talent and competition will be a virtual hot bed for anyone seeking new talent.

A formidable 3-judge panel (2 guest judges and the assembled crowd in the case of a tie) will always include respected members of the media, music industry (local and National), radio, etc. as well as other individuals that have a proven track record of being on the forefront of musical talent. Judges will be looking for the best Flow, Content, Wordplay, Originality, Presence, Cadence, Articulation and Crowd Control to select one finalist each month of the competition. In other words, performance and lyricism reigns supreme at No Guts/No Glory.

The date of the inaugural presentation of No Guts/ No Glory is set for Thursday June 26, 2008 (Doors open at 7:30 pm/ competition starts at 9:00 pm). The location will be the 5 Seasons (830 N. Guilford Avenue Baltimore, MD 21202) within the Mt. Vernon area of Baltimore, MD. The organizers are in the active stages of partnering with various entities within the Baltimore entertainment community to make sure No Guts/No Glory is viewed as the ultimate destination for one to prove their worth as an emcee. The event will also showcase 2 independent acts during a brief intermission (6/26/08 Kick-off: M.O.L. & Head Nod Entertainment).

Rules for No Guts/No Glory: The Ultimate Skillz Challenge
-Winner-Take-All 'MC Performance' Competition (up to 25 MC entrants) SOLO CONTESTANTS ONLY!
-The First MC's name is drawn & will challenge any other competing MC of his/her choice.
-Each MC performs 1 verse & hook (between 16 & 24 bars) to a beat selected by the DJ.
-2 selected judges & the audience (the 3rd judge) select the winner.
-The next MC's name is drawn but the last winner can't be chosen for that round (by).
-This process continues until only 2 MCs remain.
-These 2 MCs compete for best 2 of 3 rounds to beats provided by the "spotlighted" producer (#1 verse/hook, #2 freestyle, #3 "The art of story-telling" final round challenge - emcee must rap a story about topic provided by the crowd and/or judge)
-Winner gets all prize money & may elect to perform an original full length song (at that time).
-Winner earns a title defense in the next No G/G free of charge.
-No late registration
-Professionalism is expected at all times. If you are eliminated, you will exit the stage promptly
-Contestants who harass the judges in any way will be ejected & forfeit all entry fees.
-If you (the contestant) are not present (on stage when his/her name is called), contestant will forfeit all entry fees and option to continue.
-Contestants that distract other contestants' performances will be disqualified.
-Physical contact of any type will not be tolerated & will result in immediate disqualification.
-Rude &/or sexual gestures are frowned upon, but not totally prohibited.
-Contestants experiencing equipment malfunction may start over (Audio skips, loss of mic usage, etc.)
-Contestants that insult or confront audience members or other contestants will be disqualified.
-We reserve rights to disqualify any contestant, or judge in violation of the aforementioned rules.

-All judged decisions are final.
